Using the Refractometer Temperature Correction Calculator

Brewing beer and making wine require precise measurements. A refractometer is a fantastic tool for checking sugar levels. You place a few drops of liquid on the glass and look through the lens. It saves a lot of time compared to a hydrometer. You waste far less liquid this way.

But refractometers have a hidden flaw. Temperature changes and fermentation throw off your readings. Hot or cold samples change the numbers. How the Temperature Correction Works

Most refractometers are set to read accurately at 68°F (20°C). A hot or cold liquid shifts your measurement off the true mark.

To fix this, click the Temperature Correction tab. Type your reading in Brix or Specific Gravity (SG). Enter the exact temperature of your sample. To fix this, use the Wort Correction Factor (WCF). The standard default is 1.04. This works great for most brewers. You can turn this feature on or off with a simple checkbox.
