Weight per cubic foot (lbs/ft³) for common granite types
💡 Tip: Denser granite is harder and more durable but also heavier. Consider structural support when choosing heavy granite for countertops.
How to Use This Calculator
- Select your preferred unit system (Imperial or Metric)
- Choose the shape of your granite slab
- Select the granite type or enter a custom density
- Enter the dimensions (length, width, thickness)
- Specify the quantity if you have multiple pieces
- View your results instantly - no button click needed!
For Rectangular Slabs:
Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density
For Circular Slabs:
Weight = π × (Diameter/2)² × Thickness × Density
For L-Shaped Slabs:
Weight = [(L₁ × W₁) + (L₂ × W₂)] × Thickness × Density
Where dimensions are in feet, thickness in inches (converted to feet), and density is in lbs/ft³.
- • Standard countertops use 1-1/4" (3cm) thickness for durability
- • Add 10% to your calculated weight for safety margins
- • Cabinet support: Granite counters need proper reinforcement for weights over 20 lbs/ft²
- • Transportation: A standard kitchen island slab (36" × 72" × 1.25") weighs ~200+ lbs
