Plywood Weight Reference Table

Quick-lookup weights (lbs) for a standard 4' × 8' sheet by type and thickness.

All weights are approximate estimates based on average densities. Actual weight may vary by manufacturer and moisture content.

How to Use & Formula

How to Use

  1. Select the plywood type – Choose from common types like Softwood, Hardwood, Baltic Birch, Marine Grade, OSB, MDF, or enter a custom density.
  2. Choose a sheet size preset – Pick a standard sheet size or select "Custom Size" to enter your own dimensions.
  3. Enter dimensions – Input the length and width in your preferred unit (inches, feet, cm, or mm).
  4. Select thickness – Choose from standard thicknesses or enter a custom value.
  5. Enter number of sheets – Specify how many identical sheets you need.
  6. View results – The weight is calculated automatically as you input data. No need to click a button!

Formula

Weight = Volume × Density

Weight (lbs) = (Length × Width × Thickness) in ft³ × Density (lb/ft³)

Step 1: Convert all dimensions to feet (divide inches by 12).

Step 2: Calculate volume: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Thickness (ft) = Volume (ft³).

Step 3: Multiply volume by the wood density: Volume (ft³) × Density (lb/ft³) = Weight (lbs).

Step 4: Multiply by the number of sheets for total weight.

Example Calculation

A standard 4' × 8' softwood plywood sheet at 3/4" thickness:

Volume = (96/12) × (48/12) × (0.75/12) = 8 × 4 × 0.0625 = 2.0 ft³

Weight = 2.0 ft³ × 34 lb/ft³ = 68.00 lbs

💡 Pro Tips

  • Actual plywood thickness may be up to 1/16" less than the nominal thickness.
  • Moisture content can add 5–15% to the weight of plywood.
  • Densities are averages — actual weight varies by manufacturer, wood species, and glue type.
  • For shipping, add 5–10% extra weight for pallets and packaging.
